Blood Facts

Blood is the essence of life, and yet many people are unaware of the fascinating facts about it. Did you know that the human body contains about 10 pints of blood, which constitutes roughly 7% of our body weight? Blood is composed of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. Each of these components plays a vital role in keeping our bodies functioning. For example, red blood cells are responsible for carrying oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body, while white blood cells are the body’s defense system against infections. Platelets help in clotting, preventing excessive blood loss when injuries occur. Plasma, which makes up about 55% of our blood, carries hormones, nutrients, and proteins throughout the body.

The need for blood is constant. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the world requires a blood transfusion. Unfortunately, despite the critical need, less than 10% of eligible donors donate blood annually. This shortage is what drives our mission at RT Welfare and Donation. Blood cannot be manufactured; it can only be donated by individuals like you. One pint of donated blood can save up to three lives, making it one of the most impactful ways to give back to your community. Blood donation is safe, easy, and takes less than an hour. However, many myths and misconceptions prevent people from donating. It's important to know that donating blood does not weaken your body, nor does it take a long time to replenish the blood you've donated. Most people can donate every 56 days, which means you can save lives multiple times a year.
